There are currently 111 calibrated ADL tasks standardized for use with the AMPS. An AMPS observation involves having each person evaluated perform at least two personal or domestic ADL tasks that the person has had prior experience performing (e.g., pouring a glass of juice; making a bed; preparing eggs, toast, and coffee, vacuuming the floor; ironing a shirt; getting dressed).

AMPS Project International continually works to standardize and calibrate new AMPS tasks. Raters are encouraged to use new, non-calibrated AMPS tasks during rater calibration in order to facilitate its standardization. Raters who already are calibrated may use new, non-calibrated AMPS tasks, but will need to score the person on at least two other AMPS tasks to be able to generate Graphic Reports. Calibrated raters interested in contributing to the standardization of new, non-calibrated AMPS tasks may follow the guidelines on How to Submit New Task Data.

How to Submit New Task Data

Please use these instructions if you are a calibrated AMPS rater and wish to submit new task data to AMPS Project International. If you are in the process of calibrating, please refer the instructions for using new tasks in your course handouts.

  1. Raters must test people performing at least one, preferably two old AMPS tasks AND one of the new tasks.
  2. All tasks (old and new) must be of appropriate challenge, not too easy.
  3. Select the old and new task names from the menu of AMPS tasks as normal.
If a new task is not available in your AMPS software, you may need to update your AMPS 9 software or upgrade to AMPS 9 from a previous version of AMPS software (e.g., AMPS 2005) to be able to enter data for these new tasks.
  4. Enter skill item scores and overall quality of performance ratings for both old and new tasks.
  5. Export data (as one does for rater calibration; see course handouts for details).
  6. Submit using the Rater Calibration Center. Once you have logged into the Rater Calibration Center please select 'Research Data: NOT for rater calibration' as your country.
